Hi, I’m Dorothy Powers a.k.a. Dotty Holt, an independent, self-produced artist based in South-East London.
My single Cardboard Boxing is out on Friday 31st July SPOTIFY. It’s been a long time coming but somehow it feels like I’m only just getting started!
Lyrically driven, with a dark synth-pop sound, I use ‘found sounds’ such as the engines of a London bus or a Venetian electric storm to create a completely individual sonic scape. I have been honing my production skills through online courses with Mix With the Masters, including access to FINNEAS O’Connell’s production course (he is a personal hero) and I am endlessly learning new ways to produce and shape my own sound. My go-to and most cherished guitar is a Fender Parallel Universe Telecaster Jazz-Strat, in a gorgeous Mystic Surf Green and I have a Squire Bass VI in Coral, which gives a whole new sonic palate to my work.
Alongside making music, I am a student at University College London (UCL) studying Art History, which is really interesting and legitimises the time I spend hanging out in galleries and performance spaces. I am also a blacksmith working with my own forge where I make chefs knives and am currently attempting to make my first sword. I’m really interested in medieval weaponry and through this, somehow, became National Junior Longbow Champion 2022, which seems like a dream now. I do occasionally pick up my long bow but there’s never enough time to get decent practice in.
What’s the plan? My single Cardboard Boxing comes out on Friday 31st July. What that means in practice is that it’s going to be released through Spotify and Apple Music. My second single, Alice, will be released at the beginning of September. If all goes to plan, my EP will be available in Vinyl and will be ready before Christmas. I want to gig as much as possible, so please let me know if you come across any great venues or opportunities that might complement what I do. I love performing.
It’s hard to gain traction as an emerging artist, so if you could follow me on social media or just like my posts, it might get the algorithm moving in a favourable direction and get my music heard by new people. Thank you!
